GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, was established with the primary objective of empowering women through quality education in Engineering and Technology. In addition to its academic programs and state-of-the-art facilities, the institution actively promotes entrepreneurship among students through its Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC). The EDC focuses on imparting entrepreneurial skills, motivating students to become job creators, and providing support for transforming innovative ideas into successful ventures. The cell regularly organizes entrepreneurship-oriented programs by inviting experts from industries, successful entrepreneurs, and banking institutions to create awareness about emerging trends and opportunities.

Since 2015, GSSSIETW has been receiving financial support of ₹1,00,000 annually from the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, for conducting Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EACs). Through these camps, several workshops, expert talks, and industrial visits have been organized to foster an entrepreneurial culture among students and enhance their entrepreneurial competencies.

Building upon these initiatives, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell submitted a proposal to the Department of Science and Technology under the National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations (NIDHI) scheme for establishing a Technology Business Incubator. Consequently, the DST-NIDHI iTBI – GSSS Technology Business Incubator Foundation (GSSSTBIF) was established at the GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru, with financial support of ₹3.5 crores from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and an additional contribution of ₹75 lakhs from GSSS(R). This initiative reflects the institution’s strong commitment towards fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.

As part of the eighth anniversary celebrations of the DST-NIDHI program, eight new incubation centres across the country were inaugurated on 6 September 2024, and the DST-iTBI-GSSSTBIF, Mysuru, was among the selected centres. The inauguration ceremony was held at the NIDHI Centre of Excellence, FITT, IIT Delhi, and was inaugurated by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Government of India, in the presence of Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi. The event was also streamed online on 6 September 2024.

The DST-NIDHI iTBI-GSSS Technology Business Incubator Foundation aims to provide a vibrant platform for aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators by offering infrastructure, mentorship, technical guidance, and an enabling ecosystem to transform innovative ideas into sustainable businesses. The incubator primarily focuses on the domains of Food Technology, Agro Processing, and Healthcare, thereby addressing national priorities and real-world challenges through technology-driven solutions.

The Foundation is committed to nurturing innovative enterprises, promoting entrepreneurship, and contributing to regional economic growth. Over a period of three years, the incubator aims to support and incubate 30 start-ups, thereby creating a robust ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship and empowering young innovators to become successful entrepreneurs.
