About the Programme

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering started the M.Tech. program in Digital Communication and Networking in the year 2013 with an initial intake of 18 students. The program aims to provide students with a wide range of opportunities in both industry and research & development (R&D) fields by equipping them with advanced knowledge and practical skills in digital communication and networking technologies. From the academic year 2022–23 onwards, the sanctioned intake has been revised from 18 to 6 students enabling a more focused learning environment and enhanced faculty–student interaction.

The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation in advanced communication engineering while integrating contemporary technologies and research-oriented subjects. It covers areas such as Advanced Communication Systems, Advanced Communication Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks, MIMO and Smart Antennas, Error Control Coding, & Cryptography and Network Security. The curriculum is periodically updated to meet the evolving requirements of academia, research organizations, and the communication industry.

The program emphasizes a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, laboratory experiments, simulation-based learning, mini-projects, seminars, and dissertation work. Students gain hands-on experience using industry-standard software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, NS-3, HFSS, LabVIEW, and Python-based simulation platforms, enabling them to analyze, design, and optimize modern communication systems.

The department is equipped with well-established laboratories and computing facilities that support advanced experimentation and research in digital communication and networking. Students are encouraged to undertake interdisciplinary projects, publish research papers in reputed journals and conferences, and participate in technical workshops, faculty development programs, hackathons, and industry-sponsored training programs.

The program is committed to producing competent engineers with strong technical knowledge, research aptitude, ethical values, and leadership qualities, enabling them to contribute effectively to technological innovation and societal development in the rapidly evolving field of digital communication and networking.

The M.Tech. (Digital Communication and Networking) programme has consistently maintained high academic standards, reflected in the outstanding performance of its students in the examinations conducted by the Visvesvaraya Technological University. Since its inception, the programme has produced 8 University Rank Holders, demonstrating the department’s commitment to academic excellence, quality teaching, and research-oriented learning.
