Youth Red Cross (YRC) Units
Aims & Importance of Youth Red Cross Unit
The Youth Red Cross is most important constituent of its mother organization Indian Red Cross Society. Youth Red Cross aims at inculcating the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement, such as Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality. The Youth Red Cross is organized with a view to develop and deploy student youth resource for working towards these principles.
It also aims at inculcating in youth the ideals and practice of service especially in relation to:
- Taking care of their own health and that of others.
- Understanding and accepting civic responsibility.
- Promotion of National and International Understanding and goodwill by using their International link of the movement.
- Promotion of Volunteerism.
With the above mentioned ideals GSSSIETW, Mysuru started Youth Red Cross Unit during the academic year 2018-19. The activities conducted during ODD Semester are as below.
Flood relief fund collection drive
In connection with heavy flood in Coorg district, Youth Red Cross Unit of GSSSIETW, Mysuru organized Coorg Relief fund collection drive in its MBA department. Students and Staff members of MBA department wholeheartedly contributed an amount of Rs.10, 000/- towards Coorg relief fund. The donation was contributed to affected people through Kodava Samaja, Mysuru on 6th September 2018. Sri R K Bharath, CEO & Board Member GSSS(R), Dr. Shivakumar M, Principal, GSSSIETW, Mysuru , Office bearers of Kodava Samaja, Mysuru, Dr.Vishwanth, HOD, Department of MBA, Sheshadri S N, Coordinator, Youth Red Cross Unit GSSSIETW & Students of GSSSIETW, Mysuru were present on this occasion.
Sri R K Bharath, CEO & Board Member, GSSS(R) and Dr. Shivakumar M, Principal, GSSSIETW, Mysuru, were handovering donation Demand draft to Office bearers of Kodava samaja students and staff members were seen on this occasion.
Awareness program on Women health and food habits

Youth Red Cross Unit of GSSS Institute of Engineering & Technology for Women, Mysuru organized an awareness program on Women health and food habits on 6th September 2018. Dr. Sanmathi, Chief radiologist, SRL diagnostic centre, Mysuru was the Chief Guest of this event. In her speech she emphasized the importance of cultivating good food habits for good health. Followed by this she spoke about women health issues, symptoms and remedies for various common health problems. Dr. Bellappa S, Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Vinay Venugopal, Professor & Head, Department of Physics, Dr. A T Eswara, Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics, Prof. Yogesh M, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Padmashree, Professor, Department of ECE, Sheshadri S N, Youth Red Cross Unit Coordinator, GSSSIETW, Mysuru and all first year students were present on this occasion.
